There are a few moments of greatness – the trip through the Helghan slums for example – but on the whole the game fails to take advantage of its setting.Īnd it’s a real shame because for the most part Killzone Shadow Fall delivers in other areas. This isn’t a terrible campaign by any stretch of the imagination but I was left deflated by the end of it (and my word the ending is poor). The characters are uninspiring, Echo is probably the best of the bunch but is criminally underused, and the story plods along with no real urgency or sense of exactly what you’re fighting for. And sadly Shadow Fall squanders a glorious opportunity to deliver a memorable and interesting story. Which sounds like a fantastic opportunity for some ‘Cold War’ style espionage missions behind enemy lines and a chance to see the fight from both sides of the wall. A huge wall is built between the two societies with covert ops being run by each government on both sides of ‘The Wall’. Following the last game’s conclusion, Helghan survivors are granted refuge on Vekta and are eventually given their own territory within Vekta, called New Helghan. You play as Lucas Kellan, a Shadow Marshall for the Vektans. In Shadow Fall we say goodbye to Sev and Rico et al, with the game being set 30 years after the events of Killzone 3. The characters have always been fun and memorable (yes, even Rico) and the story was usually decent sci-fi fare, which is cool with me. ![]() While the multiplayer is a huge draw for Killzone titles I have always loved the campaign modes as well. With a new console, Guerrilla Games is again pushing the graphical envelope with Killzone Shadow Fall but as the game breaks away from the plot and characters of the last two titles can it live up to expectations? The Killzone titles have been one of my favourite game series in recent years, the superb Killzone 2 and 3 both spending plenty of time in my PS3. ![]()

Making great animation marries creativity with attentiveness to detail, moving slowly, and deliberately important skills for our kids to develop.Ĭurrently, our animation classes are very popular, engaging, and a great social outlet during the pandemic. It works the same way for other types (and type combinations) as well. To make the function fast for two floats we just need to call it with any two floats and the compiler will specialise the compiled function for those types too. So after it’s first called with two integers, every other call with any integers will be way faster (and will take less memory). It’s because Julia’s compiler specialises the function’s compiled code on the basis of its first usage for given argument-types. In this presentation, I plan to focus on the following aspects of Julia:īefore we start, let's see JIT compiler in action:Īs you can see, some calls to add are significantly faster and require much less memory than the others. On top of that, Julia offers powerful metaprogramming capabilities. But once you get the hang of it, you’re bound to see some spectacular results. To make the most of it, developers need to know how to use the typing system properly. It's fast thanks to the JIT (just-in-time) compiler and a smart typing system that helps the compiler to optimize the code. Julia was designed to perform high-performance numerical and scientific computing. It's free (basically like every language save for Matlab or Mathematica). It's easy to learn and quick to prototype with (like Python, and unlike C, C++, Java). It's fast (like C or C++, and unlike Python or Ruby). Why should you care? Julia has a lot of benefits: Let’s see what it can offer to Python developers. Julia is a relatively new programming language. ![]() A few notable examples are Visioneer’s Strobe XP 220 and XP 300, both lighter than the S300, with the latter capable of duplex scan and an even snappier scan time than the S300 but no ADF. (A completely stand-alone scanner is a future concept we will briefly discuss later in this article.)Īlthough this is more of an in-depth review than a comparative one, it’s still worth mentioning that there are several somewhat similar (and a few less similar) portable scanners on the market today at roughly the same price, around the $300 mark. Using the USB to charge the S300 makes it a truly portable device, although it still requires a computer. Using a USB for power increases the scanning time, typically seven seconds more for each page on our test, independent of the resolution used. One of the most interesting design and hardware features on the S300 is its ability to charge directly using a USB connector-actually, two USBs: one for power, and one for data. Sadly, Fujitsu neglected to add a retractable tray to collect pages after they have been scanned, but putting the scanner in the middle of a table solves this, and we easily improvised cardboard to do the trick. The S300 turns on when you open its cover, which can be extended to support longer (A4/letter) pages. At 3.08 pounds (1.4 kilograms), the S300 might not be the lightest, or smallest, device of its type, but it’s portable enough so that most people can carry it along with their laptops if they need to and for its size, it’s defiantly the smallest automatic document feeder (ADF) with duplex capability in the world. The unit has only one button, which starts the scan going directly into the computer. The ScanSnap S300 is a very friendly, simple device in terms of is construction. ![]() The S300 is one of several portable scanning units currently available on the market, made to increase the productivity of the road warrior while still maintaining high-level scanning for office applications. We received the Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 portable scanner in early 2008. TFOT tested the mini-scanner extensively to see if its slim design and duplex capability can actually make this tiny automatic document feeder the scanner of choice for the professional road warrior. Fujitsu recently came up with the innovative ScanSnap S300 portable scanner. ![]() Other popular forms include Texas 42, Chicken Foot, Concentration, Double Fives, and Mexican Train. ![]() The most commonly played domino games are Domino Whist, Matador, and Muggins (All Fives). ![]() Despite the coinage of the word " polyomino" as a generalization, there is no connection between the word "domino" and the number 2 in any language. The name "domino" is probably derived from the resemblance to a kind of carnival costume worn during the Venetian Carnival, often consisting of a black-hooded robe and a white mask. European dominoes may have developed independently, or Italian missionaries in China may have brought the game to Europe. Modern dominoes first appeared in Italy during the 18th century, but they differ from Chinese dominoes in a number of respects, and there is no confirmed link between the two. The earliest mention of dominoes is from Song dynasty China found in the text Former Events in Wulin by Zhou Mi (1232–1298). Another form of entertainment using domino pieces is the practice of domino toppling.Ī boxed domino set dating from the late 19th or early 20th century A domino set is a generic gaming device, similar to playing cards or dice, in that a variety of games can be played with a set. The traditional European domino set consists of 28 tiles, also known as pieces, bones, rocks, stones, men, cards or just dominoes, featuring all combinations of spot counts between zero and six. The gaming pieces make up a domino set, sometimes called a deck or pack. The backs of the tiles in a set are indistinguishable, either blank or having some common design. Each end is marked with a number of spots (also called pips or dots) or is blank. Each domino is a rectangular tile, usually with a line dividing its face into two square ends. In short, night vision is not a strength of SimpliCam. In other words, it wasn’t a crystal-clear connection, but it definitely accomplished the task. SimpliCam has Two-Way Talk, which is a standard feature in security cameras but for good reason: It’s really helpful in a crisis! SimpliCam’s Two-Way Talk did a great job scaring away a critter or two in my tests, and the audio handled similarly to the Ring Stick Up Cam I reviewed not long ago. Something that can definitely spook folks sneaking around where they shouldn’t be. No, it’s not as technologically advanced as cameras with true color night vision, but this setup does have the added deterrent of illumination. Imagine filming something on your phone in the dark using a flashlight. Your picture will be in color, but it’s not going to be super crisp. On the other hand, your outdoor camera is going to use a motion activated spotlight to illuminate things. Inside, the SimpliCam uses infrared LEDs to see in the darkness, which means your picture is going to be in black and white once the sun goes down. The primary difference, though, is the night vision capabilities of both cameras. Pretty standard stuff, and exactly what you’d expect from this no-frills brand. It has a 1080p resolution and a 140-degree viewing angle. In terms of video quality, it’s on par with the current SimpliCam.
